Aphrodite

A sketch in oil of Aphrodite, after Pellegrini.

This painting is a loose copy from a page that had been torn out of an auctioneer's catalogue. There was no information about the painter, however a friend researched it and discovered that the painter of the original was Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini (Venice 1675 - 1741).

MDF board was primed with acrylic gesso, and when dry, overpainted with dilute raw sienna, giving a translucent golden ground. The drawing was done with a fine brush, wet-in-wet with dilute burnt umber, and the white highlighting was done, also wet-in-wet, with titanium white oil paint.
