Unfinished oil portrait of Gilbert. Three sittings.
My friend Gilbert looking contemplative. I should like to develop this painting, hint more at the smile that is so often there (truly serious people often smile, in my experience), and put in the rich skin tones. The current state of this painting is tonal only, in other words, I have developed the form and shading but not the colour. Unfortunately Gilbert lives in a different continent to me, so this painting is likely to remain in this state for a while.
