strange but beautiful paintings
Panache cherub
This cherub was painted for Douglas Druce as a Christmas card, to accompany a gift from his portraiture class at Morley College, London.
The various objects relate to parts of his technique:
fluff-it refers to a method of removing hard boundaries, with a similar result to what is elsewhere known as Tonking;
panache is when, in the later stages of a painting, paint is put on with a loaded brush, in the manner of De Laszlo or John Singer Sargent;
half-crown touches (note the half-crown in the picture) are the last minute touches that bring the painting to life.
Of course you can't really buy panache in a tin.
